Musée Matisse

Matisse lived in Nice for nearly forty years. You may continue believing southern light is just a hashtag, but that would be a pity.

LES NIÇOISES SAY

Less spectacular than some Riviera foundations, but more deeply tied to Nice. This is where the long relationship between Matisse, the city, colour and light starts making sense.

Why we go

Set in a Genoese villa in Cimiez, the museum brings together paintings, drawings, sculpture, cut-outs and working material. The nearby Régina, where Matisse lived, and the wider Cimiez setting give the collection context.

What to actually look at

Do not hunt only for the famous works. Look at drawings, models and working stages. Until 28 September 2026, Henri Matisse - Yves Saint Laurent creates a very natural conversation with fashion.

PRACTICAL

Open Wednesday to Monday, closed Tuesday. 1 April to 31 October: 10am to 6pm. Single entry listed at €12. Checked August 2026.

Since you are in Cimiez, do not race back downtown after twenty minutes. The arenas and neighbourhood will not bite.
